Storm Floris has provided a distraction this week to my continuing preparation of plants for Sunday 17 August and our plant sale. However, there’s no major damage, just a huge amount of shredded leaves and branches- the poor magnolias took the brunt as they are heavily in leaf and brittle- lots of snapped off chunks. Lots of raking required to tidy up- Mike even thought a leaf blower might come in handy- first time he’s ever said that!
Collecting all the plants together and writing labels is a major task when there are over 250 to be done- and I can only store plants where the deer can’t reach them. I’ve a cache near the house for the herbaceous material with arisaemas and fasicularia hiding the softer things behind. The rhododendrons are mainly in the fruit cage but I’ve wrapped the first 40 or so in hessian- I’ve now run out so it’s back to compost bags and pots for the little ones.
I’ve still to label the trees and shrubs but have sorted the magnolias and acers so it shouldn’t take long. I’m planning to put out a list of plants to the Scottish Rhododendron Society and a few others to stimulate interest. If anyone is interested please let me know.
The eucryphias are looking amazing at present and the hoherias just starting. Lots to see.
