Life with bees

I was in the vegetable patch yesterday lunchtime tying up sweet peas when there was an unforgettable noise- the sound of bees just about to depart in a swarm. A few minutes later they were high above the huge beech tree and that’s the last we saw of them. It’s a natural process but a shame!

In the rock garden plenty more bees are gathering nectar from the Geranium palmatum and from the really tiny flowers of Ilex crenata.
