Plant Sale in 2025

We have to start early when planning a plant sale- really they are every 2 or 3 years when we run out of space in the rhododendron nursery bed. I’ve just been moving lots of babies to make room for the 100 or so that need to leave the shade house to give me space for last autumn’s cuttings. It’s taken 3 days and luckily the weather has been perfect- mainly grey and damp!

I’ve added 7 bags of ericaceous compost- I know we must reduce what we use but really it’s the only thing that rhododendrons will grow well in- they don’t adapt to these mixes made with lots of garden rubbish. I have tried others but not successfully so far. Also it’s a good chance to clean out the moss and weeds, and to note what we will need for planting in the garden.

Now time to pot on lots of meconopsis and primulas- the tomatoes are taking over the greenhouse and I need a clear out of last year’s seedlings that can now happily move outside.
