Wild January

The last two weeks have been exhausting- strong winds and gales seemingly continuous and almost 4 inches of rain since Sunday! After each new blow we go round the garden and find something else damaged or pulled out of its place- a lovely eucalyptus, multi stemmed birches that fell across the Rock garden deer fence and several smaller rhododendrons. And the ground is covered in trash- branches, leafy twigs and near our boundary even a huge trampoline!

Still it's a quiet and apparently dry day now and temperatures are rising. There's lots to do before we open again in March but the signs of budding are encouraging and the snowdrops give us hope.
